Articles about how close we are to "the cashless society"
"In 2021 only 19% of transactions in the US were cash transactions and cashless payment volumes are expected to further increase by 43% between now and 2025." (embolding mine)

"These are the pitfalls of a cash-free society" (May 2, 2019, World Economic Forum)
From the article:
"Half of Sweden’s retailers expect to stop handling cash by 2025. And last year IKEA trialled its first cash-free store. Cash in circulation has dropped to 1% of GDP.
A fifth of Swedes don’t withdraw cash anymore, and only 13% reported using it for a recent purchase, compared to 40% in 2010."
(observe, this was over four years ago! What is it now?)

"Cashless society. It looks like Sweden is primed to become the first country in the world to abandon paper money. The question is why?" (10.01.2020)
From the article:
"Cash use has declined so much that the Riksbank, Sweden’s central bank, has even considered introducing its own digital currency, the “e-krona”, as a complement to cash. According to the Riksbank, less than 2 percent of all transactions made in Sweden last year were made in cash. This figure looks set to drop even further to just 0.5 percent by 2020. Compare this to the global average of 75 percent and it creates a stark image of how little Swedes really use cash." (embolding mine)
