Will the next El Niño trigger the release of the 50 gigaton of methane from the Arctic Ocean?
Could the next El Niño (an unusually warm climate period) which is forecast to begin this year and continue into 2024 (see this article, Paul Beckwith believes it will become a super El Niño, see this youtubevideo), be the trigger for near-term human extinction?
Climate scientists believed there would be an El Niño already in 2020, but the prediction failed, and we got a prolonged La Niña (an unusually cold climate period).
Look here what climate scientist Sam Carana had to say about it back then:
"El Niño could be the catalyst to trigger huge methane releases from the Arctic Ocean."
"The red short-term trend (based on Jan.2009-Nov.2019 data) has the highest R² (0.994) and highlights how El Niño could be the catalyst for huge methane eruptions from the Arctic Ocean, triggering a huge global temperature rise soon."

Peace activist and author Robert J. Burrowes was back then not afraid of the following conclusion:
"In fact, the methane threat is already so extreme that the forecast El Niño event for 2020 could be the catalyst to trigger huge methane releases from the Arctic Ocean precipitating human extinction this year. See ‘Very early warning signal for El Niño in 2020 with a 4 in 5 likelihood’ and ‘Extinction in 2020?’"

So, many of you have heard of the legendary threat of the release of 50 gigaton of Methane from the Arctic Ocean, forecast to be able to occur at any time by Russian scientists (see this article in The Guardian in 2013), the warning coming already in 2008.
Will this methane be released during the next El Niño?
It will be interesting to see.
